In the summer of 1987, there were many alternative circles developing in the Atlanta area. New Age Information Network, RAMA, and South Eastern Earth Alliance, were just a few. Many of the members of those circles met on the same rented pieces of land, one of them being The Four Winds Village in Tiger, Ga. It was in that place that we all came together to honor the Harmonic Convergence and pray forward our many desires to leave the big city and return to the source of the Earth. A search began for a Sacred land base that resulted in the creation of Hawkwind as well as several other centers that still exist today, and several that are no longer around.

Hawkwind was discovered on Earth Day 1988, and dedicated on Memorial Day weekend with 88 friends and families of many circles. Today, there are still a dozen of us from that original group and many, many hundreds of others who have passed through this gateway to grow, heal and experience the healing practices of many ancient cultures. Beginning with nothing more than Charla & daughter's in tents and Tarwater in his traveling Tipi, we now celebrate many wonderful developments on this Sacred land, as a family who has shared this vision together since it's creation. Everything on this land built of our own hands and recycled materials. Everything designed to be earth friendly and managed as a Sacred Altar of healing and safe haven.

The land itself has a story that started long before we were here. Two Native Chief's controlled this mountain. Red Headed Wills, was part Irish and Young Tassel who left behind a red haired freckle faced lineage, as well. In our first year we brought the families of these ancestors to this land to teach us what had been left here. With the great great grandson of Young Tassel and the family maps, we were able to locate many special places on this land. The area that meets the Big Wills creek carries the old slave road at it's side. These rocks were laid one at a time by the Chickamongans who were of many nations, including, slave, Irish decent, Cherokee, and at least nine other tribes who were herded this way through the Trail of Tears. This road was used to get these people to Fort Payne, which was the last holding fort before the march to Oklahoma. The location where we have placed our home and mess hall is the women's encampment area and the place where they cooked and met at the creek to wash cloths and such. The cave (which we are attempting to preserve, right now...long story) is a place where pottery clay was mined. The dance grounds and location of our new Medicine Wheel has been a dance ground since 1828, as best we can tell. The lodge area and the valley surrounding is filled with more healing herbs than any place else in the entire U.S. And it only topped by Peru and Viet Nam in variety.The healing waters of the falls and ancient places of practice surround us at the Little River Canyon. This land has been honored as a ceremonial grounds since the day we arrived. We have kept the energy as pure as possible with no alcohol, no chemicals on the land and everything maintained as a Sacred Altar with many portals of healing.
